I started thinking about my career quite early. When I was 16, I took on some summer work experience with a chartered quantity surveying practice. I spent time both in the office and on site, working on large construction projects across London, which gave me an early insight into the industry.

That experience was hugely influential. The people I worked with, particularly the head of the firm, really inspired me and helped me see construction and consultancy as a long-term career path. I went on to study quantity surveying at Portsmouth Polytechnic before joining John Laing Construction as a graduate.

After seven years working on major building projects in the UK, including hospitals and commercial schemes, I moved overseas. I spent a decade in the Cayman Islands as Commercial Director for an international contractor, working across the Caribbean and Central America. I later returned to the UK and joined EC Harris, which became Arcadis, where I spent over 20 years before joining Mace Consult in September 2025.

There’s a real sense of connection at Mace Consult. It feels like a business where people are known and valued, not just part of a hierarchy. The culture and values strongly resonate with me, it’s collaborative, agile and focused on outcomes, rather than process for process’s sake. There’s also a shared commitment to clients. Teams are driven to deliver certainty and long-term value, and that collective mindset creates a strong sense of purpose across the organisation.

What has been your proudest achievement at Mace Consult so far?

I’ve been proud to see our teams secure and deliver significant work across the mobility sector, including with organisations such as Transport for London, Network Rail and Luton Rising. For me, it’s not just about winning work, it’s about how teams come together to do it, and then go on to deliver projects that give clients confidence and clarity, and ultimately improve outcomes for passengers, communities and places.

After more than two decades in one organisation, it felt like the right time for a change. What really drew me to Mace Consult was the opportunity to be part of a business that still feels personal and connected, despite operating at scale. Leading mobility across the UK and Europe is a varied and exciting remit, spanning aviation, highways, rail and ports, and it offers the chance to make a real difference for clients through collaboration and trusted partnerships.

What motivates you every day?

Delivering positive outcomes, for clients, for our people and for the wider business. I’m motivated by seeing teams work well together and achieve things they’re genuinely proud of. Providing clients with certainty around time, cost, quality and safety is also a big driver. At the same time, creating the right environment for people to thrive, where effort is recognised and individuals feel supported to grow, is something I care deeply about, particularly at this stage in my career.

What skills do you need to be good at your job?

It’s a very people-focused role. Being able to build trust, listen properly and understand different perspectives is essential. Strong technical understanding matters, but leadership is really about bringing the right people together and empowering them to succeed. Clear communication, empathy and collaboration are critical, particularly on complex programmes where alignment between clients, consultants and supply chains is key to success.
