Looking back, my career has been building toward what I do now without me even realising it at the time. I began in procurement over 20 years ago and have had the privilege of working across diverse sectors including defence, telecoms, energy, and infrastructure. In my previous role, I managed a procurement category with a significant carbon impact. I quickly realised that to achieve positive outcomes, I needed to understand how sustainability would reshape procurement strategies.
This shift led me to take on a leadership role in sustainability, where I brought my procurement expertise to the table - translating sustainability aspirations into practical, actionable strategies.
Now at Mace, I get to do both. I integrate sustainability into procurement practices and collaborate with sustainability teams. I like to think of myself as the bridge between the two!.
One of the key drivers for joining Mace was the alignment of professional values and ambition. I wanted to be in an environment where my skills could contribute meaningfully to a company that shares my passion for responsible, sustainable construction. I truly believe that when construction is undertaken with care, for people, places, and the planet, it becomes a powerful force for good.
At Mace, I have the opportunity to influence positive outcomes across sustainable supply chains, low-carbon construction, social value, and innovation. I’m especially passionate about helping shape a future where the next generation sees this industry as a place where they can make a difference. For me, it’s about leaving a positive legacy - not just in the projects we deliver, but in the environments we shape, the industry we evolve, and the people we inspire.
What motivates me every day is knowing that I’m contributing to something bigger than myself. I’m driven by working with passionate, like-minded people who are committed to the challenge, collaborating with purpose, and striving for high performance. That collective energy fuels me.
It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that our work contributes to broader, long-term goals. Being part of a team that’s shaping a better future and delivering a meaningful legacy is what keeps me inspired and engaged.
I love art and spending time in art galleries and exhibitions - it somehow feeds my soul.
I studied art history and techniques, but, probably like most people, what I studied in university is not what I do now for a living. I always try to go back to my art roots when I can though.
I still paint occasionally and have gotten more into it recently as my son has started displaying artistic skill and a great sense of imagination. Showing the differences in generations, my son conducts his art digitally, which I have also been getting to grips with. I like to think I can impart what I learn about traditional paintings (perspective, focus, composition) and pass that on to him to translate into a digital age.
